In the rapidly globalizing modern age of information and communication technology, advanced and practical knowledge, as well as specialized capabilities, is sought after. In this respect, much is expected of institutions of lifelong learning at the post-graduate level in training highly specialized experts.
In order to meet the demands of modern society, the School of Graduate Studies is providing opportunities solidly founded on comprehensive liberal arts for people pursuing to acquire advanced specialized knowledge and intellectual skills for their career development.
The following seven areas of study are being offered. The students enrolled to acquire a master's degree must select one area of study and earn more than 30 credits during at least 2 years of study period at OUJ. The 30 credits should include the minimum of 8 credits earned through research guidance.
As of March 2012, over 1,100 students are enrolled in Master's programs on 68 subjects (30 TV and 38 radio courses). See more details at the Facts & Figures.
To this end, OUJ offer the following seven programs:
- Human Life and Health Sciences
- Sciences of Human Development and Education
- Clinical Psychology
- Social Governance
- Arts and Humanities
- Informatics
- Natural and Environmental Sciences

Basic Requirements to Enroll in Courses Offered at OUJ:
- * Non-Japanese nationals can apply to the University only if they are currently living in Japan AND have a valid visa which will allow them to stay in Japan for the entire duration of their study. Student visas cannot be issued by the University as the University does not have an authorization to issue such a visa due to its status as an correspondence education institution in Japan.
- * All students who wish to enroll must also have a high level of competency in Japanese as all the courses are conducted in Japanese.
