Overview

Though online teaching and learning has been around for a few decades outside of Japan, Japan has not yet ridden the wave of online teaching and learning. However, recently interest in online teaching and learning has begun to rise even in Japan due to the worldwide boom of MOOCs (i.e., Massive Open Online Courses). Some people say that this boom is ephemeral and the interest will soon dissipate. What are MOOCs bringing to the scenes of higher education? What styles of online teaching and learning are becoming the mainstream? What kinds of transformation will be required for higher education institutions? This symposium will invite five notable speakers in the field of online teaching and learning and discuss its trends.
